PROJECTS
Space and Time
How do we relate to our surroundings? How do we experience space, time and light? And might we see them in a different way?
I seek to unsettle familiar ways of seeing and open up new ways of experiencing the world. We often experience time as linear, as a movement from past to future. In my projects, I explore the cyclical nature of time: everything changes, everything repeats, everything decays … and begins anew. Space, too, is more than a physical environment: it can offer protection, but can also feel confining; it can evoke familiarity or a sense of estrangement. Through light, images, installations and materials, I seek ways to make these dimensions tangible.
My exploration of time has evolved over the years. In AEON, I direct the passage of time by gradually changing the light falling on the images. In LUMEN, the viewer determines the pace and duration of the experience. In my recent projects ANIMA and KAIROS, time unfolds in the material itself. Biological processes set the course: material grows, changes, ripens and decays according to its own dynamics. My role shifts from directing to creating the conditions for processes that elude my control. Time here is no longer something I shape or evoke — the material itself is time.
My research into space follows a similar development. Each series approaches this question from a different perspective. AEON explores the relation between time and space. The images of OIKOS are more abstract and focus on the experience of enclosed space. POROS shifts the attention to passage, possibility and future.
